Here's my humble review for your reading pleasure:

01-21-71 Freeborn Hall, Davis, CA
1: Cold Rain & Snow, Me & My Uncle, Smokestack Lightning -> Truckin', Dire Wolf, Hard to Handle, Sugar Magnolia (Missing), Black Peter (Missing), Mama Tried (Missing), Around & Around, Cumberland Blues, Casey Jones

2: That’s it for the Other One -> Cosmic Charlie, China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider, Uncle John's Band (Missing)
Filler: Mama Tried, Around & Around, Cumberland Blues, s3t04 - Casey Jones

Last Cosmic until 6/4/76; Remastered by Charlie Miller
The only reason this gets a 4 is because of the sound quality. The playing is top-notch and very high energy. It’s a very listenable show.

1st Set
The Cold Rain and Snow comes screaming out of the gate! The sound is very muddled but you can tell CM is trying to get it right. Smokestack is incredible with great harmonica from Pigpen. It’s the segue into Trucking that is small but really cool. Dire Wolf is a real treat here, especially because we get this version with Pigpen’s harmonica. Hard to Handle is great but you can tell during the build-up that they are trying to figure out what to do with it and it kind of falls flat but the song as a whole is good. Around and Around is really cool with a beat that is new and raw and I think I like this version better than what it became! Cumberland Blues and finish out the first set in a glorious fashion.

The second set opens with The Other One and it sounds as sparkly as the other songs but it becomes a MONSTER! It just builds and builds with Bobby and Phil doing – something – that elevates the song and makes it take off into the stratosphere! The stand-out of the whole show. Cosmic Charlie is short and sweet and the last one for a few years. China Cat has great energy and really goes places. These guys are on fire! IKNY finishes out this recording.

Yale Bowl is a great show that I've listened to a lot. I'm on a mission to listen to (almost) every show of 71 in order to see the progression and the change to the 72 sound. I do love the 71 sound and want to give it some love.

Near the end of the first 2 drummer period, and near the beginning if that "Skull Fuck" period, where we get a bunch of new songs, and the lean and mean GD . Too bad thy ditched "Cosmic Charlie", but they were in a "different space" at this point . These early "Around & Around's sound more like the Chuck Berry/Rolling Stones version .
